Fleet and Facility Supervisor - Sysco North Dakota at Fargo

Responsibilities:

General Summary:

To manage the purchasing, repairs, maintenance and compliance of fleet and facility transportation equipment to ensure it is completed in a safe, effective and efficient manner.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage fleet, facility and hydraulic shop personnel and department functions and personnel:

- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the department

- Recruit and select department personnel

- Recommend and make promotions, demotions, transfers and terminations

- Evaluate and conduct reviews of employee performance

- Ensure all rules, regulations and processes are followed

- Create a motivating climate for personnel

- Assist in the development of the department Profit Plan and Forecast

- Ensure the department expenses are in line with the expense to sales ratio

- Control accounts payable and complete all billing with vendors

  • Design and implement preventive maintenance procedures and equipment changes:

- Maintain up to date knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and equipment changes

- Prepare maintenance schedule based on miles driven, hours of operation or asset condition.

- Coordinate with Transportation, Warehouse for availability of vehicles or building areas.

  • Review Driver Vehicle Condition reports:

- Identify those in need of repair

- Prioritize vehicles based on immediacy and severity of requirements

- Schedule repairs as noted both internally and externally

  • Oversee maintenance and repairs:

- Assign work to appropriate Technicians(s)

- Deal with any problems as they arise

- Ensure sign-off is complete on work order and/or Vehicle Condition Report

- Assist Technician(s) in the diagnosis of problems if necessary

  • Manage Parts Inventory:

- Review parts reorder reports.

- Issue parts purchase orders and order parts, confirming prices and delivery times

- Verify receipt of parts and deals with problems

- Process invoices for payment and close out purchase order

- Assist Vice President of Operations in purchasing vehicles and equipment

  • Purchase new fleet and warehouse equipment:

- Analyze needs for current fleet and make recommendations

- Obtain bids

- Develop proposal including cost justifications and specifications for Vice President

- Upon approval, complete the proper paperwork

  • Ensure proper license and maintenance reports for all vehicles:

- Complete required paperwork to obtain license, tabs, and overweight permits for vehicles

- Review proof of insurance forms for accuracy and ensure that insurance cards are placed in vehicles

- Identify cost per vehicle

- Assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations

  • Establish repair standards:

- Work with repair software package and make modifications as necessary

- Monitor work to ensure conformance with standards

- Develop, prepare and analyze Fleet Performance reports for operating company and Sysco Corporate to ensure efficiency with the department and equipment

  • Maintain the safety and sanitation of Fleet Shop building and surroundings:

- Identify safety concerns and ensure immediate steps are taken

- Maintain the sanitation schedule

- Ensure that all accidents are thoroughly investigated

  • Complete Profit Plan:

- Prepare budget

- Complete forecast, including justifications for variances

- Maintain operating expenses within plan

- Maintain membership in industry related organizations

- Keep abreast of trends and enhancements in the industry and communicate to senior management

  • Coordinate outside service contracts and contractors:

- Obtain competitive bids for required work.

- Oversee work of selected contractor.

- Approve final work to ensure satisfactory completion of project.

- Approve payment for services to outside contractors.

  • Ensure all safety standards are maintained:

- Arrange and coordinate fire safety inspections with fire department, insurance underwriter, controls and sprinkler companies.

- Assist with safety inspections of all control systems.

- Conduct regular weekly inspections to identify possible safety hazards and take necessary action to ensure safety.

- Assist with all city, county, state and federal governmental agencies to ensure Sysco North Dakota is in compliance with all laws governing our facility, operation, safety and waste disposal.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including occasional long-term projects.

Position Knowledge and Skills:

Have a strong Transportation and Facility background. Experience with plumbing, electrical, controls, mechanical and Freon refrigeration.

Essential Skills and Experience: Four (4) to five (5) years business and supervisory background, five (5) years technical experience.

Basic Requirements:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years Fleet Shop & Maintenance Management experience.
  • Certificates, licenses and registrations in refrigeration, diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and braking systems.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Some College.

Physical Demands: Ability to operate a calculator and PC; able to bend, lift and carry a starter which weighs up to 100 pounds on occasion; able to push and pull boxes of parts which weigh up to 50 pounds two (2) times a week; able to work in a noisy and dirty environment with extreme temperatures (hot or cold) daily.

Work Environment: Inside 70% and Outside 30%

Sit 30%, Walk: 35%, and Stand 35%
