The Supervisory Medical Supply Technician position is in the SterileProcessing Service (SPS) under the Chief of SPS. The duties of this positioninclude, but are not limited to:
- Providing day to day direction and oversight of reprocessingprocedures across the Medical Center.
- Responding to emergent and critical issues related to sterileprocessing, high level disinfection, medical equipment and associatedstandards.
- Directs policy and planning and supports and provides decision-makingand oversight to ensure program goals are met and standards maintained.
- Ensures compliance with RME requirements.
- Maintains the SPS Quality Management Program
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8a.m. 4:30p.m.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to topGS-09Specialized Experience: You must possess at least one full year of specializedexperience, to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that istypically in or related to the work of the Medical Supply Technician. To becreditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least thenext lower grade level, Grade-07. Examples of Specialized Experience include:Experience in processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing,sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies andequipment. The applicant must possess knowledge of the technical names, generaluses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supplyitems; knowledge of decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, andstorage procedures; knowledge of aseptic techniques; and skill in operating awasher-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steamsterilizers. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work as anoperating room technician, medical instrument technician, nursing assistant,corpsman, or laboratory worker. You mustalso possess supervisory experience in addition to the experience listed above.Examples of supervisory experience include, but is not limited to: Developing,implementing and managing policies and procedures; Sets and adjusts prioritiesand work assignments; Experience with performance management and evaluations;Training subordinates on work functions; Developing and maintaining qualitycontrol programs. (A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of workper week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actuallyspent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for suchexperience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties andresponsibilities in each position, salary/grade level, and the number of hoursa week spent in such employment).
You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities andOther characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for thisposition:
- Abilityto communicate effectively with a diverse population.
- Knowledge ofhospital sterilization processes, procedures and standards.
- Abilityto supervise subordinate staff.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS: The work requires management and review by makingphysical rounds to all areas where reusable medical equipment is stored,utilized and reprocessed. The regular and recurring work of the positioninvolves sitting at a desk, attending meetings and direct support in the worksite. Physical effort may be required and items lifted and carried aremoderately heavy, up to 30 pounds. Work may also involve pushing and pullingcarts containing reusable medical equipment, weighing up to 300 pounds.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
- Best qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position;
- Highly qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in most of the requirements of the job;
- Well qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors, and who are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the job; and
- Qualified - applicants possessing experience and/or education that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors.
After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group. Qualifying veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the best qualified group. The best qualified group is the first to be referred to the hiring facility for further consideration and possible interview. The remaining groups may be referred based on the number of applicants available.
