The hourly rate is $23.36 to $27.29 Per Hour.
· The primary purpose of this position is to recondition, replace, repair, assemble, install, modify sheet metal parts and paint vehicle bodies and equipment, fenders, panels, hoods and frames.
· Repairs metal and composite bodies of vehicles such as light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, cargo and van type bodies, cars, busses, fire trucks, ambulances and other special purpose vehicles and equipment. Reviews work order requirements identifying vehicles to be repaired or modified. Evaluates structural damage to vehicle sheet metal or items to be manufactured, repaired or modified.
· Prepares various surfaces of interior and exterior vehicle sheet metal or composite structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, filling cracks, sanding, and applying fillers and base coats. Applies coating materials that ensure surfaces have a smooth texture, decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements to a variety of vehicle sheet metal or composite structures and parts.
· Performs general upholstery work, replaces and/or repairs automotive glass, repairs automotive and equipment radiators. Performs general upholstery work on components of all types using artificial leather and cloth-type fabric. Uses and maintains tools. Uses basic hand and power tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, and sanders. Operates complex hand and power machines such as soldering and welding equipment, industrial sewing machines: and uses brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
· Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element(s) listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the characteristics and properties of any metals used in the trade, e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, composite material and alloys.
2. Knowledge of a wide range of trade practices, accepted surface preparation and coating methods, and of paints and thinning additives.
3. Knowledge of safety and environmental standards, regulations, and requirements. Skill in planning, laying out work in manufacturing vehicle sheet metal parts and components that have combined straight and curved edges, and irregular angles, planes, and curves.
4. Skill in selecting and applying the proper coating materials for a variety of sheet metal or composite surfaces on vehicles. Skill in using a wide variety of hand and power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, insulated pliers, electric drills, sanders, pneumatic wrenches and soldering and welding machines and painting tools such as brushes, rollers, spray guns.
5. Ability to examine vehicle sheet metal and composite structures to locate cracks, breaks, holes, bulges, dents, and loose or missing rivets and determine the type and extent of repairs needed to restore original strength. Ability to make repairs by manufacturing and installing new parts, reinforcing, patching, and replacing defective parts.
6. Ability to maintain records and document actions. Ability to train and assist lower grade military and civilian personnel in all phases of automotive body repair. Ability to interpret and apply manufactures repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, computer printouts and safety manuals.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid drivers license may be required for the position.
· May be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous materials.
· May be required to guide and/or train lower graded employees.
· Must meet all certification requirements of the position.
· May be required to work shifts or uncommon tours of duty.
