Physician - Radiologist at Fargo

JOB SUMMARY:

The Fargo VA Health Care System is a Level 2 Medical Center and a member of Veterans Integrated Service Network 23.  This facility combines a 39 bed medical facility along with a 38 bed Community Living Center providing transitional care, both accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.  Fargo also has  a Department of Veterans Affairs Benefits Office on campus,  offering veterans the unique opportunity to obtain health care, benefits services, and Readjustment Counseling at one location.  Due to the growing veteran population in our service area, nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) have been established with the tenth planned for opening in late 2013.  The Fargo Health Care System provides a wide spectrum of primary and tertiary acute and extended care inpatient and outpatient activities in an academic setting.  The Fargo Health Care System has an active research program and has a successful affiliation with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.

The ‘ideal’ candidate would be board-certified with some experience in the field. A basic skill set including general radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and interventional would be ideal. Sub-specialty skills are appreciated and would enhance the department and the service to our veterans. As important as these qualities are, a strong work ethic, the ability to be self-motivating, the ability to handle the volume at this facility, and strong interpersonal and communication skills are equally important. As with any medical setting, there is a need to be reasonably flexible and always place patient care at the forefront.

Services offered: General x-ray, Computerized Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance (MRI), Bone Densitometry (DEXA), Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine. Services are requested by providers for the veterans.

Number of staff: Eighteen employees.

Tour of duty: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday through Friday; remaining hours covered by technical on-call coverage.

Case expectations: 5000 RVU per year
Special medical/procedure equipment: Night Hawk after hours and weekends with a 48 hour turn around mandated

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  This position requires a pre-employment physical.  Duties will require that you be able to lift 15-44 pounds; reach above shoulders; walking and standing from 3-5 hours.  Must have good depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements: 

Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.  This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
