·  The primary purpose of this position is to enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

·  Performs and enforces the full range police officer duties within the military installation. Incumbent has full power of apprehension and detention which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations on a military installation.

·  Serves as a Security Forces Dispatcher for the installation. Dispatches police units to scenes of crimes, accidents and natural disasters.

·  Performs the full range of Base Controller duties. Ensures individuals requesting access to the installation have the proper identification credentials before entering.

·  Performs the full range of duties for defending protection level resources. Serves as a restricted area entry controller and immediate visual assessment sentry providing surveillance for sensitive, restricted, and limited access areas.

Physical Effort:

The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. Employees engage in such exertions when responding to alarms, pursuing suspects, or participating in weapons or other kinds of training activities, climbing stairs in offices buildings, or walking foot patrols in and around large buildings. The employee will be required to continually stoop, bend, crouch and lift objects in the commercial vehicle search pit. The work may require common physical characteristics and abilities in agility and dexterity and the strength to pursue, apprehend, and detain uncooperative suspects.

Working Conditions:

The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high levels of noise in industrial settings and from aircraft engines and weapons fire, high temperatures in confined spaces, or adverse weather conditions during extended periods if traffic and patrol duties, The employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields. The work also involves moderate risk and discomfort when working outdoors without shelter or operating vehicles for extended periods of time.

Specialized Experience: Must have one (1) Year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.  To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at the GS-05 grade level Experience could have been obtained in the public or private sector and must include performance of EACH of the following duties: 1) enforcing state and federal laws, directives, regulations, and procedures that govern law enforcement operations, practices and techniques; 2) maintaining and enforcing order to preserve peace, safety, and security; AND 3) protecting property, life, and civil rights.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG): Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-05  or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral.  TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
