Electrician Leader at Minot

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is in the Air Force Global Strike Command.

The mission of the Air Force Global Strike Command is to develop and provide safe, secure and credible combat-ready forces for nuclear deterrence and global strike operations to support the President of the United States and combatant commanders.

SALARY WAGE: $26.81 to $31.29 per hour.

 

  • The primary purpose of this position is to perform work and lead employees assigned to the 5th CEOF, Fire Alarm Shop (CEOFA) in work involving installing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining various electrical systems, controls, and equipment.

  • Serves as work leader to military and civilian workers on proper electrical techniques, methods and procedures.

  • Performs and leads work crews as they install, repair, replace, modify, load, and test new and existing electrical lines, currents, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures.

  • Troubleshoots problem areas and inspects for defective equipment and faulty wiring. Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines.

  • Ensures work crews use safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

EXPERIENCE: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C; for additional information click http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/classifying-federal-wage-system-positions/standards/2800/fws2805.pdf. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

 

The screen out element for this position is: The ability to lead and the ability to do the work of the Electrician position without more than normal supervision.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

 

  • In-depth knowledge of how various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls are installed, operate, and work together to support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads sufficient to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of complete systems.

  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices, and of electrical equipment, i.e., test lamps, multimeters, circuit analyzers, circuit breaker testers, voltage recording meters, meggers, watt meters, ohmmeters, earth ground tester, ammeters, current interrupter, radio frequency tester, soil PH tester, and utility locators.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

  • Skill in troubleshooting and tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems.

  • Ability to read electrical drawings, blueprints, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams and to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various electrical systems, controls, and equipment without supervision.

  • Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.

  •  

    PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.


    ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

     

    • Shift work may be required.
    • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
    • May be required to possess a valid operator’s license in order to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.
    • Emergency overtime may be required.
    • May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions.

     

    PHYSICAL EFFORT:

     

    Makes repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

     

    Works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. May work on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet, or in close quarters such as manholes or attics. Subject to electric shock, cuts, and bruises. May be exposed to extremely high noise levels, exposure to lead, radiation, chemicals, or carcinogens and frequently exposed to temperature extremes.
