Job Description
The Electrical and Instrument Supervisor completes the following essential functions within established company and department policies, procedures, deadlines, and budget constraints.
The E&I Supervisor prioritizes, plans and schedules the E&I crew to both long and short-range maintenance operations as well as preventative maintenance. This position is responsible for the performance of these individuals in conjunction with the Maintenance Superintendent during the campaign and shares responsibility with the Production Shift Superintendents for their activities during campaign.
Because of the MDS longer operations at Hillsboro and East Grand Forks, the E&I Supervisor position requires extensive involvement in E&I planning/priorities, material deliveries, equipment selection, motor repair and MVR overhaul.
The incumbent oversees the training and development of subordinates to assure a high level of efficiency in the required skills to maintain and repair electrical and instrumentation machinery and equipment within their field of expertise. This position provides instructions and emphasizes proper safety precautions for subordinates in performing these tasks.
Maintains communication with the Engineering, Maintenance and Technical Services function to fully utilize corporate resources and maximize results. Makes recommendations to the storeroom, purchasing and central warehouse personnel regarding minimum inventory levels of repair parts and critical spares. Interfaces with federal, state and local agencies to maintain compliance with
regulations, such as electrical inspections, precipitator operations, nuclear devices, etc. Communicates externally with contractors and suppliers to stay abreast of new technological developments applicable to electrical and control areas.
The E&I Supervisor is designated to fulfill the duties of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO); Nuclear/Radiation training must be completed to obtain this designation. Provides direction, supervision and training for Electronic Control Technicians under the radiation safety program. This position is a member of the Company’s Radiation Safety Committee.
Provides expertise to plant engineering personnel on the electrical and instrumentation areas and interfaces with the Production Superintendent in developing the control system to maximize operations and achieve goals.
The Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor provides input to the Maintenance Superintendent in determining budgetary requirements for campaign and inter-campaign accounts that are normally assigned to the electrical and instrumentation departments. This position provides capital projects assessments for time and materials as well as providing imput during early engineering and monitors installation. The incumbent is responsible for the commissioning of related capital projects.
Job Requirements
To be successful in this position requires technical knowledge of power distribution, motor control computerized process control systems, (DCS) advanced electrical and instrumentation concepts typically gained through the completion of a four-year degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with three to five years of related industrial field experience. This experience should include troubleshooting, maintenance and design in the above areas. Planning, prioritizing and organizational skills are essential as well as the ability to supervise and motivate staff. Knowledge of the sugarbeet industry or alternately relevant industrial experience in power plants, refineries, ethanol, pulp and paper, steel or food processing is required.
