  • This position is located in the Health Information Management Department of the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility in the Aberdeen Area.  The purpose of the position is to perform admission technician duties in support of the Health Information Management  Department in the Admissions section of the department;
  • Performs the following department functions: admissions, discharges, release of information (ROI), scanning, filing, chart requests, birth & death certificate and paternity completion, new patient charts, updating inactive medical records and the collection of 3rd party billing forms, signatures and verification of eligibility and when necessary will get pre-authorization for admissions, high cost medications and/or procedures from 3rd party payers;
  •  Organizes and checks medical records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Assembles patients medical record and ensures the medical record is complete;
  • Assures that all documents reach the record before coding is done;
  • Responsible for printing embossed Identification Cards and filing them in the Medical Records;
  • Responsible for making sure that Federal Tort Claims are processed within 5 days of the receive date;
  • Responsible for making sure birth and death certificates are completed within 10 days of date of birth or date of death;
  • Will maintain confidentiality of medical record information in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 & Indian Health Servive;
  QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to top ***BASIC QUALIFICATIONS***GENERAL EXPERIENCE:  (All positions except Reporting Stenographer, Shorthand Reporter, and Closed Micro-phone Reporter)--Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. GS-04:  One (1) year of general experience is required, OR two (2) years of education above high school; SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:   Experience thatequipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities(KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that istypically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable,specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lowergrade level. Applicants, who have the 1 year of appropriate specializedexperience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard tohave general experience, education above the high school level, or anyadditional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualificationrequirements. EXAMPLES OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR EACHGRADE LEVEL IS LISTED BELOW: GS-05:  One (1) yearof specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level,OR  four (4) years of education abovehigh school;  EXAMPLE OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THEGS-05:  Knowledge ofstandardized medical record procedures, regulations, methods and requirementsto perform a wide range of medical records duties.  General knowledge of the procedures, rules,operations, sequence of steps, documentation requirements, functions and workflow to process medical records, to review for accuracy and completeness and tokeep track of processing deadlines.   GS-06:  One (1) yearof specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level isrequired.  EXAMPLE OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THEGS-07:  Responsible forperforming admission technician duties in support of the Health InformationManagement Department in the Admissions section of the department.  Extensive knowledge of medical recordpolicies & procedures, rules & regulations, documentation requirements,work flow, in reviewing medical records for completeness and accuracy and therequired medical record forms & formats. Knowledge and ability to identify and resolve problems, establishcriteria, make recommendations and implement changes to improve the overallefficiency of the department.  Knowledge& skills needed to collect and to organize data for statistical reportingas well as have an elementary understanding of human anatomy, physiology andmedical terminology.
